Want to give bikepacking a go but don’t have the gear? You’ve come to the right place!
The Canberra Bikepacking Gear Library is a community led initiative to provide short term bikepacking gear for hire in Canberra, giving people the opportunity to try bikepacking without needing to buy all the expensive gear upfront.
How it works
What's on offer: a selection of bikepacking bags as well as some camping equipment, for you to use on bikepacking adventures!

Pricing: The gear library is donation based, with all proceeds going directly back into stocking and repairing the gear library. $10-$20 is suggested if you can afford it. If money is tight, you can borrow for free!
Duration: bags can be hired for up to 5 days at a time.
Gear available: For a detailed catalogue of items that are available to hire, refer to the catalogue here. When you arrange to borrow, we'll ask you some questions about your bike so we can work out which gear fits best!

Gear collection: gear can be collected and returned from Chapman Shops. To arrange a time, please contact us.
Frequently asked questions
I don’t know the first thing about bikepacking! Is this service still right for me?
Sure is! Bikepacking can be daunting, but at the end of the day it’s just strapping a bunch of camping stuff to your bike, riding somewhere to sleep, rinse and repeat! If you have a bike and know how to ride it, you’re already halfway there!
What is the standard setup for a beginner bikepacker?

What happens if anything I borrow gets damaged/lost?
Wear and tear happens! If a bag breaks we would consider it wear and tear and you wouldn’t have to pay for it. If a bag is lost, we may charge a small fee for replacement with a comparable second hand item.
